There are many reasons why hemp is superior to other clothing fibers. For starters, hemp can grow practically anywhere and in any environment. Not to mention, hemp requires little water, harvests quickly, and in no way harms the top soil. What this means is that once the plant has been used the remaining soil is ready to be used to grow another plant, and it does not even have to be hemp!
Organic Cotton Clothing
When it comes to cotton there is no better substitute than organic cotton. By taking advantage of organic cotton, clothing manufacturers and retailers are able to produce far superior products than their counterpart cotton can. The main advantage of organic cotton is the fact that it has to be certified and in order to receive certification the cotton must be grown in solid that has not been touched by pesticides or other chemicals for at least three years. An interesting fact to point out is that regular cotton uses 25% of the world’s pesticides, which translates into two billion pounds. Save the environment by only using and wearing organic cotton products.
Bamboo Clothing
Bamboo seems like it would not be an eco friendly clothing substitute, but in reality it is. Bamboo happens to be the fastest growing plant in the world. This makes it easy to replenish, creating new bamboo plants. While being the fastest growing plant in the world sounds excellent, bamboo is also know to emit more oxygen into the atmosphere than any other plant in the world. The biggest surprise would have to be how little water bamboo requires and that they can survive in nearly any climate.
